Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has disclosed that the state had awarded a contract for the construction of a bridge at Ikoga that would link various communities including Apa and Ajara in the Badagry area of the state.
Fashola stated this when he led members of the State Executive Council to the inauguration of various projects embarked upon by the state government in Badagry and Ojo Local Government areas.
He expressed optimism that the proposed bridge would increase the capacity to transact business within the area.
During the inauguration of the Igbo-Igbele jetty, the governor revealed that the choice of the area was strategic as it would link the Badagry town to 15 villages and also Cotonou, Ogun State.
He said, “What we have done today is very important as it would enhance transportation through water and also provide a link for economic exchanges for the rural people.”

He noted that the jetty would offer direct transportation from Badagry to Cotonou, Ojo and Ogun state.
Fashola, who also opened the Apa mini water scheme in Badagry, said the inauguration it was in fulfilment of the need of the community, promising the residents that the government would embark on other projects to develop the ancient city.
He said, “During our tour of local government areas in the state, we asked the local communities to choose their priority of needs and this is what the Apa community chose.”
The governor gave the assurance that his administration was committed to providing basic amenities for the rural areas, adding that the projects would discourage rural dwellers from migrating to the urban areas.
“This is not our solution to water problem, but it is a short term measure to stem water borne diseases and give our children an opportunity to have the kind of life that I enjoy as a person.”
