Kaduna State government has assured people of the state that the government will soon bring to fruition the proposed 250 megawatts of electricity to boost power generation in the state as soon as the Independent Power Project (IPP) is completed.
Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo of Kaduna disclosed this While declaring open the cotton, textile and garment round table meeting organized by African Cotton and Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF) in Kaduna. He said that more than 450 litres of water would also be at the disposal of the state by the time the various water expansion schemes which are already ongoing in different parts of the state are completed.

The governor urged stakeholders in the textile sector to take advantage of the Federal Government’s N100 billion fund and work towards bringing the sector back to life.

The meeting with the theme, "Consolidating Regional Economic Integration through Value Addition, Trade and Investment" gave the governor the opportunity of going way back in time, according to him, in 1986 as the state commissioner for Agriculture he led the campaign for the cotton revolving scheme, which led to the establishment of the one in Zaria which was subsequently sold to a private investor.

Sambo, who said he was worried by the lack of access by stakeholders in the state to finance, promised that with the water supply government would provide 30,000 hectares of irrigable lands for the production of cotton all year round.

He then promised to assist the federation in realizing its goal and objectives and also fasten the revival of the textile mills in Kaduna.

ACTIF had membership from almost all the East African countries with Nigeria as its first member from West Africa.
