Kano to Establish N1bn fish market

altThe Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has laid the foundation of a modern fish market estimated to cost N1 billion through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the outskirt of the city. He said his government is determined to boost commercial activities by creating the enabling environment and improving internally generated revenue in the state.
 
The governor said the fish market is aimed at providing a conducive atmosphere for fish business in the state.  He said the state government only provided the land while an indigenous company, Nigerian Brick and Clay Products will build and provide facilities for the market.
 
Facilities in the market would include shops, an administrative block, conference hall, cold rooms, fish ponds, public conveniences, banks, Police station, restaurants, parking space and a mosque.
 
 The state’s Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives Alhaji Ahmad Ibrahim Yakasai said the market which is the first of its kind in the country is to be completed within 15 months.  He said when completed will bring together all categories of fish retailers as well as other related trades which are now scattered around Galadima road and other locations within the metropolis.
