The Director-General, Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Vincent Aquah, MON has appealed to ecological experts in the Country to rally around relevant authorities to plan for possible disasters associated with wind, rain, thunder and lightening.

The Director-General made the call while presenting relief materials to victims of flood and windstorm disasters in Adim, Obum and Agwagune communities in Biase Local Government Area.

Mr. Aquah, said that this period of the year is normally prone to natural disasters as the rains are setting in and that it was relevant to make adequate plans that would give the disaster managers a vantage knowledge an how to tackle them.

According to him lack of adequate information on disasters had often left the people vulnerable to the effects of such occurrences and also put Governments at all levels at a perilous conditions.

The Director-General said SEMA was ready to collaborate with ecological experts in order to further put the State Agency in a sound footing to contain disaster situations.

Presenting the materials which included cement, rice, blankets, wax prints and buckets to the victims, the Director-General sympathized with them and urged them to use the materials judiciously.

The Chairman of Biase Local Government Council, Dr. Emil Inyang described the State Governments gesture as applauding and appealed for sustainable efforts to contain the high frequency rate of disasters in the State.

He particularly commended the State Emergency Management Agency for it resilience in the management of disasters in the State and called on the State Government to continue to give it the needed support.

Responding on behalf of the victims, Elder Onun E. O. Bassey of Adim, Hon. Anthony, Ukam of Obum and Francis Esu of Emomorow communities thanked Government for displaying the good gesture.

They promised that the materials would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the people affected by the disaster.
