The Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey has urged state Governors all over the country to make the issue of environment a priority in their development agenda.
He stated this while receiving in-audience Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State in his Mabushi office.
He therefore stressed the need for collaboration by all tiers of government to adapt the best sustainable practices to combat the challenges.
The Minister stated that “I will through you urge your colleagues, other State Governors, to try as much as possible to put environmental issues as key priority in your development agenda, until that is done we’ll still be faced with these myriad of problems”.
He commended the State Governor on its tree planting efforts and encourage him to also embrace the Federal Government’s Programme on Afforestation.
In his speech, Governor Sule Lamido stated that his visit was in connection with the myriad of environmental challenges facing the state which include desertification, drought, erosion and incessant flood caused by Tiga dam.
He added that the state has been doing its best, but cannot handle it alone, hence his visit to elicit Federal support.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has awarded a contract to establish a plastic recycling plant in Kaduna.
The Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey said this while welcoming Governor Namadi Sambo into his office.
In his response, Governor Sambo thanked the Federal Government for citing some Federal Government’s environmental projects in the state, particularly the plastic recycling plant which contract was recently signed and the Garbage Processing Plant which will soon take off.
He added that the State Government will make available land for the project in the new Light Industrial Estate in Kaduna.
