Kano Wins UBE Award

Kano State has emerged as the overall Best State within the Northwest Geographical Zone in the Basic Education Delivery in the year 2005 and 2006.

Announcing the Award at a ceremony at Nicon Hilton, Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Hajiya Aishatu Dikku said Kano had judiciously utilized its Federal Government and Universal Basic Education fund.

With this feat therefore the State has won the sum of N100,000,000.00 for the next session of implementation.  Kano State was represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Musa Salihu.

Meanwhile in another development, Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano state has said that the present democratic system in Nigeria demonstrates a lot of promise.

The governor who was speaking during a dinner organized in his honor by his Osun Ste counterpart, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola at the government house in Osogbo noted that the level of political awareness that binds politicians despite political differences is a clear indication of renewed political hope.

He noted that despite belonging to different political parties, state governors and the Federal government go hand in hand because they have common responsibilities and mandates to uphold.

Governor Shekarau who noted that even though he belongs to the strongest opposition party in the country, he is not disposed to blind opposition stressing that “we are opposed to insincerity, irresponsibility and policies that are not in the interest of the citizens of this country but wherever we see good it will be recognized.”

He expressed satisfaction over the level of cordial relationship between the PDP government in Osun state and other parties saying the inclusion of non – indigene in the political administration of the state is a step in the right direction.

The governor used the opportunity to remind the people of the need to be principled and consistent in their social and political undertakings, lamenting that some Nigerians who occupied exalted positions are no longer held in high esteem because they are bereft of principles.

In his remarks, Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun state reechoed the need for national integration lamenting that ethnic rivalry, suspicion and religious intolerance have retarded the progress of the nation.

Governor Oyinlola congratulated the Kano state governor on the chieftaincy title conferred on him by Ede community in the state saying it will cement the relationship between the peoples of Kano and Osun state.
